The immigration issue is a thorn in the Presidents side that just won’t go away. Then the President sticks his foot in his mouth and says that there is nothing that can be done in regards to alleviating the illegal immigration issue and that all but lit the fuse on a very vast voting majority in areas of Texas, Arizona, California, and Michigan.
The Senate has been working hard to change the proposed legislation regarding the illegal alien issue but many in Washington still believe they are a long ways away from getting the policy right. Then you have certain Republicans trying to goad the President into pushing through his controversial policy and force congress and the Senate to acquiesce to his plans. Most predictably their efforts failed and all they have done is really rile up voters who are starting to say they are very disenfranchised with a Political Party that has a leader who says that there is a major issue in America that he, or the American politicians, can resolve. This is not the answer sway voters want to hear and it definitely is not the answer politicians running for seats this year wanted to hear from President Bush.
Hundreds of polls have shown that the vast American public wants the immigration issue not only dealt with but resolved, for the President to say there is not much that can be done has really alienated a lot of potential votes for the Republican Party. President Bush may not look hard at his popularity polls but he better read the opinion polls of America. If the P{resident continues to read the immigration issue as wrong as he has the Republican Party will be stinging at the end of this election year and again in 2008.
