Chuck Shumer Stands Up To Big Guys

New York Senator Charles Schumer is the first politician with balls enough to stand up to the current oil situation and say something just does not seem right. The Senator questioned how gasoline can be so expensive when no real additional expenses have been incurred to produce the oil, or any other part of the oil refining process.

The Senator also remarked that Oil companies made their largest profits in history last year and this year we are paying even more. I applaud the Senator and hope many support him for his efforts. I find it refreshing to find there are still some Americans who refuse to assume the missionary position for every issue we are told will be putting it to us regardless of our efforts. I hope more Americans stand up and join the Senator in similar efforts. Why should we lay down for outsourcing, high energy prices, and illegal immigration? Good for Senator Schumer for showing America, you can still stand up and be heard and try to make a difference.

Many have been silently questioning to themselves whether big oil companies are actually calculating to hold back supplies in order to boost oil prices from their $20 and $30 dollar highs just two years ago. Senator Charles Schumer called for a federal investigation to see if oil companies and refiners are calculatingly holding back their gasoline production as a way to take advantage of switch from winter gas to summer gas. He believes there may be a contrived effort to artificially bid up prices, and to be honest it appears that there is.

Senator Schumer stated, “The bottom line is they are producing at 85 percent capacity when they should be producing over 90 percent…Are they scaling back production? Only by subpoenaing the companies and looking in their books will we get that answer.”

We are already paying over $212 million more per day for gasoline than we spent last year, and over twice as much since 2002. How can these prices be justified when we have just seen the biggest profits in history be accumulated by big oil companies and oil commodities traders? I hope more stand up and get heard just like Senator Schumer, you are American, you have the right, and the ability, to stand up for yourself. Do not be afraid, make a difference.
