Is the Hammer a criminal, or a victim of a vicious Election Year Witch Hunt? Is this man a Saint or a Sinner? Many say we elect individuals by name recognition. However, I would like to think our choices are a little more educated than this. However, Tom Delay recently won his primary in his district and many believe he was on his way to being re-elected to the House. Would we elect an individual of questionable character and behavior just because he is from the same political part as ourselves?
This almost seems somehow racist, at the very least ethnocentric, how can anyone justify this type of behavior? I would think that we have learned by now when we have already endured episodes like the Marion Barry fiasco. However, Tom DeLay shows us that you can fool us once, twice, ten times, as long as you are from the same political party as ourselves.
When did partisan idiocracy replace good ol’ fashioned intelligence? Well do not fear, eventually common sense did ultimately win out when the Republicans, as a whole, began to become worried about the smear campaign Democrats were supposedly ready to launch on DeLay and the Republican party. Many say Republican leaders asked the embattled Representative to step down. Some say this is just hearsay, others say it’s the God honest truth. I believe reality falls right in between these two assumptions.
Tom DeLay is facing both criminal charges, and political pressure, as a result of his close relationship to the dishonored Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Reportedly Abramoff has made deals with the prosecution and he is still providing information to the governments’ prosecuting lawyers. Many Washington insiders believe some of the information is potentially harmful to those around DeLay. The Hammer has already seen two of his top aides brought up on charges.
The ‘Hammer’ as he is affectionately nicknamed is going to change his official address from Texas to Virginia; this will effectively eliminate him from consideration as a Representative for his district in the state of Texas. Many say that the re-districting of DeLays region of Texas was dirty politics and was designed only as a way to gain one more seat in the House of Representatives. Representative Tom DeLay, who is also the former House Republican leader was a harsh speaker and very brash during partisan clashes.
His political tactics earned him the nickname “The Hammer.” Many say he will need the hammer where he is going to end up, others say he is just the poster boy for this election years Democratic Witch Hunt. DeLay stated, “I refuse to allow liberal Democrats an opportunity to steal this seat with a negative personal campaign.”
The Hammer went on to say that the campaign for his House seat should not be
About his issues, it should be about the politics. He stated that, “ the election should not a campaign focused solely as a referendum on me.” With great powers comes great responsibility. Maybe is Spidey could talk to the Hammer all would be well in the world of Tom DeLay, or at least the GOP.
