Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke up Monday by calling for an end to the sp called political vacuum in Iraq; she basically demanded that the Iraqis start to work together to form a new government. Well welcome to the issue Miss Secretary we have been waiting for someone to finally put a foot down, or up if you know what I mean.
President Bush is experiencing a tough outlook in regards to American popularity polls. The polls reflect opinion on the Presidents actions and can cause his Administration, and the Republicans, many issues because of perceived weakness in regards to American support. Many say that we will hear much more tough talk I nthe coming weeks and I for one appreciate it. However, words without actions will be useless. We need tough talk backed up by tough actions, and hard decisions. I would love to see this President, and this Administration, be the great leaders they have the potential to be.
Condoleezza Rice was speaking at a news conference along with her counterpart from Great Britain, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. Rice stated during the conference that she is expecting the next Iraqi prime minister to be a sturdy leader that is able to unify the people of Iraq.
Rice and Straw are in Iraq to help try and end the political standoff between Sunnis, Kurds, and Shiites, that has prevented the formation of a new Iraqi government.
Secretary Rice stated, “We thought it was important to come and deliver a message that the time has come to end these negotiations and deliver a government.” I think the majority of us Americas agree. I hope the tough talk stays and her actions back up her rhetoric. We want an end to this draining policy and the quicker the better. We are too invested to just cut and run but we need more bang for our buck. Hopefully the new hard line talk delivers it.
