Senator Obama Talks Tough On Energy

Senator Obama is one of the first to speak up about the energy issue facing America, let’s hope he is not the last. The Senator from Illinois started a conversation many are trying to avoid. Everyone wants the big gas guzzling SUV’s but no one wants to pay for the high cost of gas, sorry Charlie but you can’t have it both ways.

I also believe we need to have investigations into the commodities traders, as well as the oil companies, manipulation of oil prices. Day traders are jerking the price of oil worse than a pyramid pump and dump scammer calling an old folks home. Why has the Congress, or the Senate, not looked into this earlier? I wonder if it has anything to do with the gigantic oil lobbyists in Washington? However, with all the problems involved with the energy issues facing America it was refreshing to hear a politician speak out on some of them, and Senator Obama actually offered a plan or two on how to resolve them, Good for him, I appreciate the effort.

Senator Barack Obama pointed the finger at the Bush administration Monday for what he calls their “stubborn refusal” to attack the causes of climate change. He also stated that more stringent fuel standards are needed as well as stricter curbs on oil imports. He went on to say that we need more American investment in cleaner energy, he believes this is essential if we are to avert a future global catastrophe.

Senator Obama stated, ” America is addicted to oil without following a real plan for energy independence is like admitting alcoholism and then skipping out on the 12-step program.” Many agree with his statement and they want action taken. Others are also upset with the fact that oil companies had their most profitable year in history last year and they are on a pace to shatter last years earnings. I believe the oil traders are the only ones really getting rich and they are doing it at our expense, this disgusts me and hopefully you as well.

The Senator went on to say that the American Government should provide tax breaks and loan guarantees to show the way toward greater use of environmentally friendlier energy sources. Senator Obama stated, “It’s a win-win proposal for the industry — their retirees will be taken care of, they’ll save money on health care and they’ll be free to invest in the kind of fuel-efficient cars that are the key to their competitive future…As gas prices keep rising, the Middle East grows ever more unstable and the ice caps continue to melt, we face a now-or-never, once-in-a-generation opportunity to set this country on a different course…When it comes to finding a way to end our dependence on fossil fuels, the greatest vacuum in leadership, the biggest failure in imagination and the most stubborn refusal to admit the need for change is coming from the very people who are running the country,” he said.

I support the ideals the Senator is discussing and I hope something gets done soon, especially in an election year if you other politicians are reading this.
