Westboro Baptist Church Protests At Fallen Hero’s Funeral

Can you imagine attending a funeral for a fallen soldier and there are fifty or sixty angry Baptists outside the funeral procession thanking God for the death of the soldier you are honoring. The Westboro Church of Topeka Kansas has the dubious distinction of being Gods judge, jury, and executioner, and they perform this very atrocious act regularly. The church pickets at soldier’s funerals as a way to gain attention to their message which is that God is angry with America and the deaths are just part of his punishment.

I guess these individuals do not know that Jesus was the last great prophet of God and unless he comes back to tell me that is the deal I will consider these Baptists as the moist ignorant, prejudiced, and bewildered individuals in America. How dare they besmirch the memory of a brave man, or woman, because they want to spout hate speech about gays and lesbians, or other American policy they disagree with.

The actions of this church leave me speechless in a time when America needs support and care, not hatemongering. I believe its time to bring our soldiers home and end the war. Howe3ver, as long as the soldiers are over there I will cherish their sacrifices, and honor the memory of any fallen soldier, to do otherwise would be as bad an act as those from the Westboro Church commit. How dare these individuals interfere in such a personal and respectful precession. Do they really think that they can have us believe that God has spoken to them and advised them to do what they do when all that I have learned about God is that we should love one another and judge not lest we be judged first?

Hundreds of military veterans which included various members of Michigan motorcycle clubs who are part of a group called the Patriot Guard, were on hand to keep the soulless demonstrators away.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church routinely show up at funerals and spout rhetoric stating that the soldiers’ deaths are “God’s way” of punishing America for permitting homosexuality.

The Westboro protesters have cited free speech as the defense for their activities at the funerals. This group has also picketed funerals of AIDS victims and that of Matthew Shepard, a Wyoming man beaten to death because he was gay.

The loss is hard enough for the family to take but for these bozo’s to bastardize Gods word as a way to propagate their hate speech is ridiculous. There is legislation being worked on in Michigan to stop such actions at funerals and I hope many more states follow suit. You can disagree with policies but there is a time and place to discuss your differences, the funeral precession of a brave soldier, who has more bravery, and intestinal fortitude, than the whole of the Westboro Baptist congregation, is not the place. Get a clue you racist bigots, many may agree with some of the policies you support but as the poster board for these policies you disgust me. You obviously have no sense, or tact, I only hope God shows mercy to your soul way more than you have shown to others. You are not judge and jury and you are not the final word in Christian religion. You are a small group of hatemongering and I despise you as much as I do a fundamentalist Muslim who kills in the name of God. You are both despicable and I am sure God will give you both your just deserts in the end.

Raymond, everything that I have read since learning about Fred Phelps and the ‘Westboro Wackos’ agrees with your opinion of them. My biggest fear is that people (non-Christians) will begin to believe that the Westboro Baptist Church speaks for all Christians.
