The right to prison lifers, or what we popularly call the death-penalty defiers, offer good arguments most of the time but on this issue they are fighting a losing battle. Inmate Patrick Moody was executed at a North Carolina prison for the slaying of Donnie Robbins of Thomasville, North Carolina. Donnie was reportedly killed for only a $5000 insurance policy that Donnies’ girlfriend was hopingto collect on.
Reportedly Patrick was having an affair with Donnie Robbins’ wife Wanda, who convinced Patrick Moody to gun down her husband so they could collect on a $5,000 insurance policy. Wanda Robbins was condemned to life in prison plus 65 years for the crime after she pleaded guilty to murder and insurance fraud charges.
The case brought the right to lifers back out in numbers in regards to the death penalty. However, I feel these individuals need to pick and choose their battles a little better. It is hard to get behind a cause when you are asking the world to spare the life of a cold blooded murderer who extinguished a human life for $5000 dollars.
There are times where I can actually see the views of death penalty opponents and agree with their ideals. However, when they rally behind saving individuals such as this it makes it hard for me to further consider their position on the issue. I believe forgiveness is between a man and God, I feel it is our responsibility to meter out justice as set by the current society and it is up to God to decide an individuals permanent fate.
The death penalty opposition can usually get my ear, and at times they can actually lead me towards their side of the debate. However, when they try to defend an individual involved in such a heinous, and senseless, murder, it makes me jump right back to the other side of the fence.
