Saddam Goes off on Tangent In Court

Blah, Blah, Blah, who cares. Saddam Hussein had his say in court and he made it a very colorful day indeed inside the Iraqi courtroom. Saddams’ outburst enraged the judge who responded to Saddams political rants by advising him that his courtroom was not interested in politics to which Saddam replied, “”If it wasn’t for politics, neither you nor I would be here today.” So where does the trial go from here?

Many say Saddams’ conviction is a foregone conclusion and the trial is just a symbolic measure to the peoples this individual devastated. Saddam is under trial for the murders of those supposedly involved in a failed assassination attempt on his life. However, it has been reported that Saddam killed thousands of Iraqi’s during his tenure as President of Iraq.

Most are growing tired of the Saddam issue and many just want the man to go away, they feel his relevance is no longer worth noting in regards to Iraq’s’ current situation, and these same officials say that any verdict doled out to Saddam will resound as a hollow victory when placed in the context of current day Iraq. There are reports every day of Iraqi’s who say it was ten times better under Saddam than it is now. And with the bleak outlook of civil war on the horizon many other Iraqi’s are joining in on the same opinion.

Is the Saddam trial really relevant any longer, what will be gained one way or the other when this man is pronounced guilty? Will it really help the average Iraqi man, or woman? I hope the trial brings some satisfaction to the families this man has destroyed but in regards to a better life in present day Iraq, I think there are way bigger issues that need to be addressed in order to provide the average Iraqi man, and woman, a better life.

In a rather noteworthy way the United States Congress announced Wednesday an independent panel has been assigned to study the U.S.-led war in Iraq. This panel will be expected to make policy recommendations for Congress and the White House.
