Is President Bush running the war or is the war running him? President Bush may say that Iraq does not want civil war but this has to be the closest thing I have seen to civil war since the last Vietnam conflict. The violence in Iraq has grown out of hand and if you only count the reported violence, you can see there is a large run-up pointing toward a civil war outbreak in Iraq.
If you count the unreported violence as well, you can see that Iraq is well under way in its own war against itself and regardless of what American politicians tell you, this might just be the natural way of Iraq and the cleansing process it must endure to emerge as a truly free and democratic society.
There are numerous reports of sectarian violence which leads to the speculation of fears that sectarian reprisal killings will continue at a ghastly pace. The country was handed from the intelligent to the oppressed, from the high class to the low rent district, did the policy-makers not expect reprisal attacks even in the best of situations?
Bodies are being found all over the place in Iraq, in both Sunni, and Shiite, neighborhoods. The killings are going up, and so is the retaliatory acts, ignoring it, or saying it isn’t happening, is not going to help. I believe we need to step to the side and let this country cleanse itself the way hundreds of other countries have done. Have we forgotten how our own civil war here in America led us to be the great nation we have become?
Death and destruction is a horrible thing to have to bear witness to. However, in the natural evolution of the world, it just might be the one necessity a country has to endure to become a truly free society.
