President Bush Takes Hit On India, And American Economy

President Bush spoke in a radio address Sunday of how his trip to South Asia has been spent visiting nations that can help enhance U.S. security at home. However, many Presidential detractors are complaining that Bush is spending way too much time trying to prop up other governments and economies while failing the American public at home.

Many Democrats are stating that President Bush is practically selling America out by providing nuclear technology to another industrial country that many have seen as a potential reason for the amount of unemployment and job loss in America. Many also wonder why the President spends so much time on foreign policy with little focus on the domestic agenda he ran his election campaign on. Many also see the DP World ports deal as the last straw in toleration for the President.

Many say President Bush is snubbing his nose at American concerns because he wants to do things his way as a second term president. However, this perceived attitude is beginning to draw the ire of many Republicans who still have to run for re-election. These Republicans are stating that Bush’ current policies are upsetting their support groups and he needs to address more domestic issues to shore up his sagging support numbers. Otherwise the Republican party is going to be seen as weak and uncaring and Republicans feel this may cost them numerous votes.

President Bush summed up his trip to Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan in his weekly radio address. He advised that he felt he made a lot of progress in securing American security as well as steps forward for the economy. However, politicians on both sides of the aisle say the President may be making mistakes when it comes to his nuclear deal with India. Bush also restated his support for an agreement to share civilian nuclear technology with India. President Bush says it will help American security by bringing India’s civilian nuclear program into the international nonproliferation mainstream. However, the President failed to mention that India has no intention of signing on with the nonproliferation pact.
