President Bush says we have not brought Iraq to the brink of civil war. Will someone please take away the Presidents T-Vo, he needs to be watching live television not last months recordings. In case no one has noticed, the death rate in Iraq has grown to over 500 people and there are only escalating tensions regardless of what the conservative news media reports.
There are numerous car bombings each day, there are numerous suicide bombings each day, there are numerous gunmen shootings each day, and there is no end in sight according to Iraqi officials speaking under conditions of anonymity because of the fear of reprisals. So where do we go from here? What is the game plan? Or is it that there really is not one and we have just been playing it by ear? If you don’t believe that is a possibility than I ask you to offer me something more plausible to justify the mess we now have in Iraq? If this is the plan I would hate to see the ones that got rejected. And now the Bush Administration is telling Iraqi officials that if they don’t get it together we will pull our aide out. What is that? Bush first says we can’t cut and run, then he says if they don’t straighten up we will pull out, is he pulling a John Kerry on us?
I believe that when citizens of one country are killing citizens of the same country because of their religion, you have a civil war. The Bush Administration may not want to hear it, or believe it, but this is what they have. They helped create the mess so now they need to figure out a way for us to honorably exit the mess or fix themes, and I think only one of these options is even vaguely possible.
The death toll may be reaching 500 but according to most officials it is much higher, most killings are not reported to officials and instead are handled by reprisal killings from local religious militia.
President Bush then offered this choice when he stated, “Now the people of Iraq and their leaders must make a choice. The choice is chaos or unity. The choice is a free society, or a society dictated by … evil people who will kill innocents.” Either the Bush Administration is oblivious to the situation or they made the stupidest offer in the world. Any idiot can see the choice has already been made, they chose violence and I think they will continue on with this choice.

Personally, I have no problem with the wire taps. If they save one life it is worth that someone’s mom and pop conversation is monitored. I am though, speaking as a person who has nothing to hide. But there are those that do have things that they would want to keep in their closet from prying eyes, and I am sure they are the ones speaking the loudest against wiretapping.
The test to this whole wiretapping is issue, will be if the government has an agenda against someone or a certain group will they focus on that group? And the larger question, if they do have an agenda against someone will they abuse this power for politcal gain?
I don’t think the issue here is wiretaps. The issue is performing warrant-less wiretaps…meaning President Bush is not going to the FISA Court to obtain a warrant before performing a wiretap. And the whole issue about they don’t have time to wait for a court to issue a warrant…BS!! The Administration is permitted to file for a warrant within 3-days of performing the wiretap.
I also don’t have a problem with the goverment performing wiretaps, I believe they are a necessary tool for fighting crime or “terrorism”. But what I am against is the President sidesteping the rules and the law. Check and Balance. That’s what it’s there for.
