Can someone please tell me why President Bush is trying to help the Indians solve their energy crisis when we have one right here in America? I recall a power blackout a few years ago that paralyzed the Northeastern part of the United States. President Bush hurried to the stage at that time and advised us that we will spend millions upgrading the system in America, does anyone know of any progress made on this or was it just a pre-election promise that meant nothing?
I would also like to know if President Bush is going to do anything further to help reduce the ridiculous amount our heating bills are costing this winter. And finally, why are we going to give nuclear technology to a country not part of the nuclear non-proliferation pact? Are we crazy?
As President Bush travels from Afghanistan to India, I am left wondering why he is not traveling throughout California and helping them with their energy crisis. I also wonder why the President wants to empower a nation where thousands are chanting anti-U.S. slogans, waving hate filled speech signs, and burning American flags. This is not happening in some wild undeveloped area of the country it is happening right in the heart of New Delhi, so I again ask, why is the President doing this?
The Bush Administration say that Bush is hoping to mark a critical nuclear accord with New Delhi, a move which is already raising political ires in both nations.
The deal President Bush is trying to negotiate is a nuclear deal between New Delhi and Washington. The deal would have the United States supply nuclear technology and fuel desperately wanted by India to fuel its flourishing but energy starving economy. So what is in it for us? Not much according to the details of the proposed deal. We will getto help build a few reactors that will power thousands of businesses bent on undermining their competitors right here in America.
Indian scientists and nuclear industry supporters say the deal with the U.S. would erode their nation’s military ambitions. What are they talking about? And why would we supply them nuclear plans when they are not members of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty? Has President Bush gone over the deep end on this one?
Bush Visits India To Discuss Nuclear Issue
There are times when the ‘experts’ spout rubbish and the blogs get it right, and then there are times when the blogs are full of rubbish and the experts are right.
Also, “what’s in it” for the US is not just about commercial transactions. It’s about creating friends in a region that will become increasingly important in the future. It’s partially about counterbalancing China.
From what I gather, most of the objections are moral “we’re rewarding them for bucking the system” ones. To which I say: the system isn’t working that well anyway- witness how NPT states like N.Korea and Iran were able to develop military programs with relative ease (with some assistance from Pakistan and (worse, declared-weapons-power) China).
At some point those against this deal will have to look at their high moral ground and the reality on the ground and then decide if they want to bring the ‘good guys’ into the fold or choose to stick with a system that doesn’t particularly discourage the ‘bad guys’.
