Hillary Or Condi in 2008?

There is wild speculation that the 2008 Presidential election will be a showdown between two very bright and intelligent women, Senator Hillary Clinton, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Some say they both have looks, others say they both have intelligence. Regardless of your opinion of them, both women are lightening rods when it comes to partisan politics and you can be sure the hacks are chomping at the bit to start the war of discrediting once the 2006 elections are in the books. You know these women, but really how well. Do you trust either to run the Government of the United States of America?

The Republican Party needs to fracture the Democratic hold over the minority vote, they also need to attract younger voters, for these two reasons, Condoleezza Rice will be front and center as a Presidential candidate. Hillary reminds us of Bill, and everyone loved Bill, guilty by association is what Hillary is anticipating, the voters who supported Bill will flock to Hillary, get ready for the term ‘Billary’.

The minority races of African American, and Hispanics, will combine to account for almost 30% of the vote in 2008. Condoleezza is a strong representative of the black community; her prowess will garner many votes from individuals wanting to support and African American candidate. Hillary will also look to utilize her previous work in regards to African American civil rights and African immigration.

Both ladies are set to try and garner as much of the female vote as possible for their respective party. Hillary will go after the supportive woman, domestic housewife vote. Conversely, Condoleezza will tray and attract the busy on the go, upward mobility, female votes.

These are the issues now lets look at them a little more personally.

Lets begin with Hillary Rodham Clinton. Hillary was born Hillary Diane Rodham on October 26, 1947. The hyphenated name is enough to make casual voters turn away, many hold hyphenated names in contempt and they feel challenged by women who have them, it is irrational but truthful, the hyphen will cost her. Secretary Condoleezza Rice was born November 14, 1954, the only name change she has endured is the press penchant for referring to her as Condi. I think on the name game it’s in the bag for Condoleezza, Condi makes you think of the neighbors girl you grew up with, the casual voter will swing her way easily.

Hillary is married to former President Bill Clinton; she was First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. Condoleezza Rice is unmarried, she had been previously engaged to former football star Rick Upchurch, but she never married. She was reported to have accidentally referred to President Bush as her husband at a Washington dinner party, she then quickly corrected herself. Mark one up to Hillary, voters love the family plan.

Hillary has received numerous awards and adulation such as the United Arab Emirates Health Foundation Prize, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Children of Chernobyl Relief Fund, and the Mother Teresa Award, along with the American Medical Women’s Association’s President’s Vision & Voice Award, and the Reserve Officers Association’s National President’s Award. Condi was named by Forbes magazine as the world’s most powerful woman. Hillary has the pomp and circumstance but Forbes nailed it by naming Condi the most powerful woman in the world. Score one for Condi.

The rest of the debate will come down to issues, on this point both candidates will stick solidly to their political parties ideals, you will see little, or no, deviation from the party line on any issues these ladies support. Therefore you would most likely vote for the ideals of the party you belong to. This leaves it a toss up.

In the end it appears Condoleezza Rice will win out. However, the course is long and hard and fraught with many dangers. Only the strong shall survive and in 2008 we will see who the strongest of the strong is.

One comment for “Hillary Or Condi in 2008?”

  1. I think it would be a very interesting race, and I agree that Condi would win. However, I disagree with some of your analysis. I think that “domestic housewives” will shun Hillary as someone who stuck by a cheating husband. Furthermore, while First Lady she made statements that diminished the role of stay-at-home-moms.

You’re absolutely correct that Condi will attract ambitious women. While Hillary is, of course, very ambitious, she has risen to success on her Husband’s coat-tails; this is not the sign of a strong woman. Condi, however, is responsible for her personal success. Furthermore, her history, growing up in the racist south, will play well among minorities, and will help to bring minorities back to the Republican party, the party that made the advances that allowed for her success.

While both are intelligent, I think that Condi has a much better grasp on the issues than Hillary. Hillary supports a great deal of fringe ideals (socialized medicine, etc..), and will suffer from the scandals of her and President Clinton (Whitewater, failed policies, etc….). “[E]veryone loved Bill,” is a grossly inaccurate statement. President Clinton’s approval rating at the end of his presidency was 34%! A great deal of Republicans recognize his tenure as one of great failures in homeland security and the economy, among other things. Condi would clean up when it comes to the issues. A debate, I think, would be a blood-bath.
