UAE : Has President Bush Turned Dubai Ports Deal Into Another Halliburton?

Is the Dubai Ports World deal another Halliburton deal in disguise? One of Dubai Ports World’s top executives, David Sanborn, was nominated by President George W. Bush in January to become the administrator of the Maritime Administration. Consequently this same company gets a lucrative deal form the Bush Administration, IE Halliburton; the deal will reportedly make Dubai Ports World the third-largest ports group on earth. Does this raise your suspicion?

There is much discussion going on about the Dubai Ports being potentially protected by the United Arab Emirates Dubai Ports World is a company owned by the United Arab Emirate of Dubai, President Bush has advised that Dubai Ports World will take over managing six major ports in connection with shipping of product into the United States.

To begin with President Bush has said we must trust this country and this company, the President has personally vouched for the safety resulting from the deal. However, it has been reported by Bush Administration officials that the President was unaware of the switch to the Dubai Ports World company prior to all of the recent fuss. This leads me to believe that either President Bush is making a naïve statement when he says trust this company or he is lying about the fact that he just found out about the deal. Either option is a very bad situation.

Next we have President Bush, and his Administration, telling us to trust the company because it is certified safe by the Maritime Administration. However, what they are not telling you is that one of Dubai Ports World’s top executives, David Sanborn, was nominated by President George W. Bush in January to become the administrator of the Maritime Administration. Is this not a conflict of interest that should be further looked into?

Please also do not forget that some of the 9-11 hijackers were from this country, they obviously have some form of culture that wants to see pain and suffering of the American people, have we identified this element to make sure they will not be employed by individuals responsible for our port protection?

What is the real deal going on here? Is there more than meets the eye going on here? I think we are all concerned and we definitely want to know.

  1. It’s all strategery, folks. Just today, Bush said: “People don’t need to worry about security.” So what do you think people are going to do when you tell them not to think of an elephant?

Fresh off Rove’s successful NSA leak win, the administration is going even further now to keep security on everyone’s minds. Why?

I agree, Raymond, there’s a lot going on.

  2. I think there is another issue here. A 1993 statute requires a mandatory 45-day review when a foreign government wants to buy a U.S. asset…and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States quickly approved the deal in 25 days. I’m no lawyer, but I wouldn’t hesitate to say the Administration is again walking a fine line and possibly breaking the law.
