The master of avoiding disaster has weighed in and just like his better half he has said that the current Bush Administrations penchant for secrecy is one of its big problems. Both former President Bill Clinton, and potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, have spoke about the Dick Cheney situation and the errors of the ways it has been handled.
Some say if this happened with President Clinton in office the story may have just been swallowed and we may have never found out. However, give the current Administration some credit; the truth did get spit out, not like some of the scandals from the previous administration. However, this should not be an issue about whether a story should be spit or swallowed, it should be a story about credibility, and the credibility of the Bush Administration is hurting because many felt the Dick Cheney news should have gotten out quicker.
I still don’t think the Bush Administration understands that the American public is not mad at Dick Cheney for being a bad shot, they are mad because they were not made aware of the situation their heart-beat away leader found himself in.
I believe we have every right to be suspicious, and upset. We deserve the truth in situations such as this, and we deserve them quickly. The Vice President is supposedly the second most powerful person in America, if he is in a compromised position it should be relayed to use immediately, we deserve to know.
The Vice President is a citizen so the argument that he has privacy rights is valid. However, when you accept the position of Vice President there are some liberties you sacrifice.
I hope the Bush Administration learns from this incident and improves on its handling. America deserves to know and it needs to know. So next time just spit it out a little faster, we would all appreciate the honesty.
