Bill Gates, The Detroit Zoo Needs You

Next time you hear about the rebuilding efforts in Iraq, or the new schools in Afghanistan, I want you to remember the children in Detroit. Why remember them? Because they are victims of a budget crunch, and they are losing one of the only niceties they have, the Detroit Zoo.

For many urban children, this is their only chance to see wildlife in a semi-natural habitat. The zoo is something almost every child in Detroit remembers going to. The school buses line up and the school gets its yearly trip, it was one of the best things ever I can recall, while growing up as a child in Detroit.

Detroit is not alone when you consider large major cities that face budget crisis. However, Michigan is one of the hardest hit states by the loss of manufacturing jobs. Many of these children are the kids of proud parents who have recently lost their jobs, or have taken a major pay cut to keep their jobs. The Detroit Zoo has always been a source of pride to these people and if you take that away you take away another piece of hope for these people.

During recent elections in Michigan we heard nothing of the problems the zoo was facing, I believe this was a purposeful effort by the mayor to not cause a scare in the city prior to his reelection campaign. We then had the Super bowl, and no one wanted to hear any bad news prior to this. Now the dust has settled, and guess what? The bad news was broken, and to many it was a severe shock they still have not recovered from.

Don’t these children deserve a Zoo as much as those overseas deserve our foreign aid? Why shouldn’t American taxpayer dollars go towards the future of American children? Are other countries children more important than our own? This is a situation which should never have reached this level, but now we are at this level and we need assistance in getting out of this problem.

Ask anyone in Detroit, the Zoo is an inspiration to young children. In a city where violence is everywhere, and green grass and tress are scarce, these children need this haven. This Zoo gives hope to a child who sees no hope in the world. It gives them the ability to dream and want to do more with their lives when everything else around them seems to steal their zest for life. The Zoo needs to be there for these children.

If you know Bill Gates then please let him know the Detroit Zoo needs him. Otherwise I ask you to tell a friend and have him tell a friend, if everyone is only seven people away from knowing everyone in the world, I expect to hear thatVoteswagon.com inspired Mister Gates to save the Detroit Zoo. Meanwhile, while we wait to hear from Mister Gates, please do what you can for the Detroit children, findout what you can do to help the Detroit Zoo.

Why The Zoo Needs Microsoft And Bill Gates
Thank you.

  1. Next time you write about anything, remember to keep things logical. The Detroit Zoo is not a national icon, it’s a Detroit icon. Is it a nice zoo? Yes, I’ve been there. However, it’s not up to me or anyone living outside it’s area to provide financial support - it’s up to the people of Detroit. That has nothing to do with the financial support we are providing any other country, whether it be Britain or Afghanistan. Perhaps if Detroit’s two Democrat representatives were more in tune with reality and self-esteem, they wouldn’t have to resort to begging for money and blaming the lack thereof on a war. Want that zoo to stay open? Stop wasting time blaming everyone else for not giving you hand outs and start a fund raiser. That way, if the people of Detroit want to keep it open, they’ll find a way.
