While Americans focus on the Olympics, there is an Olympian effort being put forth in congress to once and for all straighten out the tax cuts for the next five years. Congress is debating the pros and cons of the proposed tax cuts offered up to Congress, and the Senate, by the Bush Administration.
The Olympic debate began in the House, and the Senate, this week. It is expected that the Republicans will stick together on the issues of Dividends, and Capital Gains, while the Democrats will try to get more relief for lower income brackets. While the two sides appear widely apart there are also many Democrats trying to work with Republicans in both the House, and the Senate, to hammer out compromises that will make the tax cuts more appealing to the middle class, and lower class, citizens.
The usual rhetoric has been heating up prior to these discussions in the House and the Senate. Election year politics are in full swing with the Democrats restating the decades old stance that tax cuts routinely favor the rich. Conversely, the Republicans are advising that the Bush Administration tax cuts of the past few years are what has rejuvenated the American economy and they say these cuts need to be made permanent as they are, for at least the next five years.
The arguments will go on, they will be just as heated as the Olympic competition going on half way around the world. These politicians may not be competing for gold but trust me, if you pay one cent in taxes you probably pay a dollar, and these tax cuts will affect you greatly one way or another.
If you have time to turn on the Olympics you should make time to turn on the C-Span, who wins gold in the Olympics will be quickly forgotten, what you pay in taxes will stick with you every paycheck of your life. You tell me what’s must see T.V., Your future or Olympic Slalom Snowboarding?
Make an Olympian effort and utilize our government contacts list to find your elected politicians, contact them, find out what their position is on taxes, this way you will be the gold medal winner.
