H5N1 Found In Olympic Host Italy - Is Bush Protecting Us From This Threat?

H5N1 (aka Bird Flu) has been found in the Olympic host country of Italy, and the original Olympic country of Greece, the virus is spreading faster and further, and with the outbreak hitting Africa, the world is crying out, “Help Us!” But how can we help them if we can’t even help ourselves? The spread of the H5N1 virus is now being detected in parts of Europe and Africa and the world is asking the question, “How can we help them when we can’t even help ourselves?”

Many are still dismissing the virus as just hyperbole; they say this is just a passing fancy that will never show up at my door step. However, if this virus comes a knocking you better believe you will pay attention because most likely you will have been doomed to a fate that is far worse than death. The virus causes a painful death, it’s not a fall asleep and never wake up sickness, it’s like a heavyweight title fight, and you will be in this fight with one hand tied behind your back for sure.

As the virus spreads throughout the world there has been no response from the American President on how America will prepare for the disease. President Bush has spoken numerous times about the world’s commitment to fighting the spread of the H5N1 virus. However, President Bush has not provided and assurances to the American public that America itself is prepared for a potential outbreak. President Bush has a containment policy established with the military but all this does is assure that if you are in an infected area you will be trapped with other individuals so that the spread of the virus does not potentially leave your area. Your fate is tied in with the overall publics fate if the disease is found in your area.

What can be done? We are not sure, we have not heard from anyone in the Bush Administration on what our responsibilities actually are. What is being done? According to the Bush Administration, all that can be done is being done, but no specifics have been provided. What is the outlook? The outlook is that the virus will find its way to America. When it does the question becomes, “How will we survive?” This is a question President Bush should address to us as a public announcement, we should not have to wait and see before we get these answers, we need to be prepared ahead of time. Our lives depend on it.
