The Hobo Bowl Is On In Detroit

Here is an article that refers to Detroit’s dirty little secret. The Hobo Superbowl party. Don’t confuse this with the Playboy party, or the P-Diddy party, or the Shady-Bowl party put on by Eminen. Don’t get me wrong, this party will have all the amenities, chips, dips, and big screen televisions. The only price you need to pay to get in is your pride. This party is staged and paid for by the city of Detroit, it is for the homeless people of the area.

The SuperBowl has hit Detroit this weekend and there are numerous personalities going on the radio, and television and stating how they see that Detroit has vastly improved in the past few years. They remark that they do not see any homeless like there are in other major cities, they also do not see any vagrancy, and they are amazed.

Well please allow me to let you look behind the curtain. Detroit, just like many other major areas, is masking the real problems it has so that it can cater to the affluent, the upper class. The homeless are there, you just have to know where to look to find them.

For anyone who does not know, the homeless in the Detroit area have been rounded up the past few days and offered a place to stay complete with furniture, beds, televisions, showers, and hot food. They are also are getting driven around the city to any where they want to go as long as they do not walk around. It’s like they hit the hobo jackpot, for at least three or four days.

The city of Detroit is also throwing these guys a Superbowl party so that the homeless can watch the big game on big screen televisions Superbowl Sunday. What a treat. However, the treat will be short lived, the Tuesday after the Superbowl the dream turns back into a mirage and these individuals are going to be put back out onto the streets.

Is this fair? Ask the homeless, they are just happy to have 3 hots and a cot for a few nights. However, maybe the world needs to see how life really is in major urban cities. There is talk of a reinvigoration but if you seen the real Detroit you would see, for many its hard times. Michigan is one of the leading states in unemployment; good jobs are hard to find. Many good men are out on the streets because here is no opportunity for them.

There will be many good men at their SuperBowl party; I only hope the city does not forget them as fast as the whole Superbowl party leaves the town.

The most disturbing part is the mayor is the one accepting the accolades while also being the man behind the Hobo Superbowl party. He should do more for these disadvantaged than throw them a Superbowl party, what will he do for these people when the Superbowl is in another town next year? Well don’t despair, we have the Final Four coming in a few years, I am sure the mayor will hook something up again for them.
