The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the largest issue in the Middle East. It is impossible for us to say we will not deal with who is in power. Therefore, the question becomes how will we deal with them?
I in no way support terrorism in any manner, shape, or form. However, I do not live in Palestine, or Israel, so I am discussing this point from my cultural relativism, not an Arab, or Israeli, view. I would ask anyone ever directly involved in this issue to express their views or concerns with our readers.
If you think a partisan congress is tough in America, just try pushing something through the newly elected Palestinian legislature. The newly elected legislature in Palestine is made up of individuals whose resume of previous dealings makes the American congress, and their lobbyist friends, look like a Mister Rogers neighborhood.
The newly elected groups of legislators are made up of previous Hamas militants, planners, recruiters, and charity (illegal terrorist fund-raising) managers. I would expect to see these individuals on Americas Most Wanted before I expected to see them on television as elected legislators. However, this is the choice of the Palestinian people, and since we want them to have freedom of choice, we must accept their decision. To say otherwise would make us most hypocritical.
We say we want democracy in the Middle East, and democracy has apparently taken root. However, the election in Palestine has brought forth issues no one wanted to previously consider. What do we do if Hamas wins the election? It happened. Now what do we do?
The Islamic fundamentalist group Hamas, which has already said it stands by its commitment to see the destruction of Israel, enjoyed enormous success in the recent Palestinian legislative elections, they have vowed to make a difference in the Palestinian political landscape.
The Presidents response was to say we will not deal with terrorist organizations. Is this a case of bull-headedness, or just another example of bad planning for an event in the Middle East?
We knew this could, and most likely would, happen in Palestine. How can we not be better prepared? The Hamas party widely beat out the ruling Fatah party, I am sure we knew ahead of time how the election was headed, now all we have to say is no comment at this time, or we are not going to deal with a terrorist organization.
I think we need a better plan than this to deal with the current situation. Let’s hope we work together to finally attain peace in the Middle East.
Hamas landslide shakes Mideast
I found it rather funny today…President Bush pushing for democracy around the world…sounded upset that the Palestinians elected a Hamas majority in their democratic parlimentary elections yesterday. While I understand that the Hamas are regarded as a terrorist organization…what do you expect Bush? Everything to go your way?
The Palestinians were fed up with the corruption that was present in the ruling Fatah party. And hence…democracy took its course. Just like it will for the U.S. in 2006 & 2008.
The truth is, there will never be peace between Jews and Muslims. And, there will never be peace between Westerners and Muslims. Muslim extremists want anyone that doesn’t believe in their ideologue DEAD! That means most of you reading this. Unfortunately, we must kill them before they kill us. They are the enemy. And any of you ‘lefties’ that say that this sounds ‘racist’ ask yourself this simple question. How come the so called ‘moderate’ Muslims have not come out to condemn Iran, the insanity regarding the cartoon violence, calling the Holocaust a ‘myth’ and the call for the destruction of Israel?
Now it seems they are just killing eachother around the world. Better them than us. Everywhere these animals go, they blow up innocent civilians and contribute NOTHING to society. I say, keep them out of Israel and keep them out of the United States.
While I agree with you that there will most likely never be peace between ‘westerners’ and muslims, I do not believe that we should kill them before they kills us. I think it is safe to say that the majority of muslims just want to go about their daily business just like you and me. It’s the radical islamic groups that must be dealt with.
I say just keep the muslim population contained in their respective countries. Stop trying to force western domocracy down the throats of people that are perfectly happy living how they are. Start worrying about our own country for a change…
