Pentagon Report Says Army Stretched To Thin

A sponsored report by the Pentagon, now being referred to as ‘the thin green line’, details what one military professional, Andrew Krepinevich, calls ‘a fractured military.’ Reports may say there is a stress, and a strain, on military personnel. However, any military individuals I have spoken with say otherwise. Andrew Krepinevich submitted a report, sponsored by the Pentagon, which advises that our military is becoming stretched extremely thin in regards to the Iraq War.

Andrew cites the enrollment numbers for enlistment as one of the main flags in regards to the health of the military. He also points out that the Iraq conflict has taken longer than expected, and this is causing an undue stress fracture to our service men, and woman, as well as prospects for the future of the volunteer forces.

Congressman John Murtha stated earlier that he felt the Army was not defeated, but that they are a little broken, and getting tired. Murtha also believes our military presence in Iraq inspires insurgents to join in the resistance to the new Iraq, Murtha feels these individuals would otherwise assimilate into the new Iraqi society if not for our foreign presence.

The Secretary of Defense strongly disagrees with the report now being referred to as ‘the thin green line.” Secretary Rumsfeld says he feels our troops are battle hardened and trained to combat the threat of terrorism and win the war on terrorism.

I have not seen one soldier who looks tired, or worn out. Maybe it’s a testament to the intestinal fortitude of our brave soldiers in Iraq, and Afghanistan, or maybe it’s the leadership they follow. Either way, the report may show numbers but it does not reflect heart.
