The Bush administration is backing the governments attempt to get Google to release search information on individuals who have searched for pornographic material at various intervals of time. Maybe you did it by accident, maybe you did it on purpose, but either way, do you feel your search should be private information or not?
The Justice Department stated that Google is currently refusing to comply with a subpoena issued last year, the subpoena is requesting information on one million random pornographic web addresses from Google’s databases, as well as records of all pornographic searches entered on Google, during any one week period.
The issue has arisen because the current administration is trying to strengthen their position before their attempt to revive the 1998 Child Online Protection Act, which was blocked by the Supreme Court two years ago. The block effectively killed the act, but now the current administration is trying to revive it.
Many support the Child Online Protection Act, but they do not want their private searches revealed in any database of compiled searches.
Do you feel the government is once again stealing your civil liberties from you without your approval? Do you feel violated by this even if you do not search for porno?
What have you searched lately?
