Mayor Ray Nagin And His Chocalate Factory

Mayor Ray Nagins comments did display one thing to our country; it exposed a couple of renowned leaders as racists. The usual suspects who claim to stick up for civil rights are being exposed by this situation as extremely racist themselves. If equality, racism, and justice, are so important to Mr. Jackson, Mr. Sharpton, and Mr. Farrakhan, why have they not spoken out, and created marches in protest, for the racially discriminative remarks made by Mayor Ray Nagin. Is their justice color blind as they say, or is this issue exposing them as potential racists themselves?

As far as I know, the terms equality, prejudice, and discrimination, have no mention of color in their definition. So I ask, if these values are so important to Mr. Jackson, Mr. Sharpton, and Mr. Farrakhan, why are they not speaking up, and out, in the defense of these sacred values? Is it because only Whites, Hispanics, and Asians, are offended by these comments? And what about the ACLU, why have they not filed an official protest? Why is it o.k. for one race and not for the other? Isn’t this what we detest so badly about segregation, the application of dual standards? So again I ask, where is the outcry?

Two wrongs don’t make a right but in this case they do help us recognize a Bozo. How can New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin say what he said and not be labeled a racist, or at the very least, a Bozo. Imagine if Mayor Bloomberg made such a mistake in New York, ooh would he be fired, soo fired; there would be no room for wiggling. Jackson, Farrakhan, Sharpton, and countless others would be sure to see to that.

And after all this, Nagin claims God is on his side. Well if God stands with the Mayor, who can stand against him?

Do you feel offended by these comments, even if Mayor Nagin feels he is a chosen one?

  1. The Mayor has apologized but this does not really make it all better. He should still feel the brunt of the media, and civil rights groups. He made a terrible decision to speak like this, he should feel the repricussions just like any other politican who has made similar racial comments.

  2. I agree that Nagin’s comments can be construed as racist. It may be fairer to call him a Bozo, though. I think what he was trying to say was that he wants all the people who left New Orleans (most of them were black) to come back. He wants New Orleans demographically as it was. This could be a racist statement, but is not necessarily.

But I do think we should accept his apology. A lot of folks go on and on about America being a Christian nation or at least a highly moral one. The most central message of Christianity is forgiveness (i.e., Christ died for our sins). An honest apology should be accepted as such. This does not mean he shouldn’t be voted out of office, though.

  3. Your commetns are greatly appreciate mchebert. Many feel the same as you. I agree with you about forgiveness, it is the best. However, how many times has someone, not black ,made a comment, and never able to live it down? I have been in situations were someone has made a comment that ooffended me numerous times and I did like you said, I just shrugged it off and forgave them. However, how many times has holier than thou Rev. Jackson, or Rev. Sharpton, came down on someone repeatedly, unmercifully. I am all about the equality thing, but I want to know why these guys make their case when discrimination goes one way and not the other. You made some great points, I appreciate them greatly.

  5. I feel that Ray Nagin has been through a lot over the pass couple of months. But I would like to ask all the people that talked about him and his descions what would they have done differently. Everyone is just looking for someone to blame. So because he is black and to get the heat off of the them they are trying to put hot coal on his head. If you read this Mayor Ray Nagin I put you on the pray list at my church on Sept 1. Guess what if God be for you who could be against you. Mayor when I watched them perscute you I thought of Jesus. But guess what it isn’t over until God says its over so you and your team be encourage.
