Virginia Tech’s Marcus Vick kicked Off Team

In a world where youth is enamored with its sports athlete hero’s it is increasingly important that the institutions in charge of these sports govern themselves with intense scrutiny. Marcus Vick is one such individual, a potential sports hero, and I am glad to see the institution did not fail our country in regards to their responsibility of the earlier stated task. Hail, hail, the Hokies of Virginia Tech.

I believe congress understands how much our young children adore these athletes, I believe that is why they are becoming more involved in how high school and college sports are ran. I am also glad that some institutions are more thoroughly scrutinizing their own programs. How these athletes portray themselves manifests itself in our society and culture whether you like it or not.

Many of our youth today grow up as many have in the past, trying to emulate the behavior of their favorite sports athlete. We hope that these athletes not only have talent but that they also have intelligence and class. In most cases that is the case. However, Marcus Vick is showing himself to be the rare exception that can mislead our youth.

I applaud the Virginia Tech institution for its actions in expelling Marcus Vick. They understand the behavior this individual has displayed is contrary to the image their learning institution hopes to portray. It makes me feel good to see that people actually understand that talent does not necessarily mean class. This guy has all the talent but appears to be a real self-centered arrogant individual who has no respect for his fellow athletes or humans. I love to support the athletes who have talent and seem like genuine individuals. I don’t mind cockiness, I enjoy it. However, Vick appears over the edge.

He has been cited for various behaviors by law enforcement individuals, he has had his drivers’ license revoked, and his latest episode, purposely stepping on a players leg with the look of an apparent attempt to hurt him was unforgivable. Marcus has said the step, or stomp as it is being called, was not on purpose. However, Media and news sources who have shown the video routinely strongly disagree.

I hope for the best for this young man, hopefully he can get his life together and adjust normally into society. However, he must remember that with his position in sports comes responsibility, he may not want to be a role model but that my friend comes along as part of the job if you are a professional sports athlete in America.

Millions of people work in this world for way less than 10 dollars an hour and they present themselves admirably, if you have the chance to earn a stratospheric salary in the NFL, I hope you remember our youth are watching you, not just on the field but off as well.

Because our youth are involved in sports adulation I hope congress steps up and becomes even more active in their pursuit of making sure young high school kids are not enhancing heir bodies with potentially harmful drugs.
