President Bush Speaks To America And Asks For Iraq Support

Do you feel America should support the President any longer on his policy in Iraq? The President reminded us that we must stay the course on the policy in Iraq, he asked us to not give in to despair and depression in regards to Iraq. However, many Americans are asking how much more our country will have to suffer and bear. And by the way, when is the last time you heard an Iraqi official publicly say, “Thank you” to America?

Is it fair to ask America to suffer its children for the domestic issues of another country, should we open-endedly offer our money, children, and resources for another countries domestic problems? America has won its war of independence; it has suffered its own scars, should we have to also suffer so much for other countries? Is freedom given better than freedom attained? When will Iraq stand on its own and take the mantle of freedom we have helped provide? If you listen to Iraqi politicians, they want American influence out of Iraq as soon as possible, does this sound like someone who appreciates the freedom we are providing?

Has anyone ever recalled hearing an Iraqi politician openly, and publicly, thank America and her citizens for the support and freedom they have provided? Instead we get Iraqi officials advising that Iraqi insurgents have a right to resist any foreign occupation and that we need a better understanding of their position.

The Iraqi people want us out of Iraq, numerous polls show the American populace wants us out of Iraq, and I believe the soldiers stationed there want to come home from Iraq, so tell me, why should I support this policy any longer? Why is the President so persistent in trying to prepare us for what appears to be a very long stay in Iraq? It has been over a thousand days, how much longer will I have to drive to work and pass by half-raised flags that represent fallen hero’s?

It is one thing to come to the defense of another country; it’s entirely a whole different issue to ask us to liberate them. The President must recognize that as we continue to fight for issues in Iraq we are experiencing domestic issues at home. We have issues that need to be addressed here, and as happy as I am for voters in Iraq, I have concerns for men and woman in America. I have concerns for American citizens who are losing employment, have no health insurance, and send their children to schools that claim they are under-funded for the No Child Left Behind Program. I appreciate the efforts in Iraq but its time to get it concluded and take care of our own at home.

President Bush spoke to the American public Sunday; many feel it was to remind us of the success in Iraq. However, his critics say that if the elections were really a monumental success the President would not have spoken to us to remind us of how successful it really was. Many Democrats feel the elections were positive but the policy is still fractured and unprepared as far as providing us a victory in the manner of victory the Bush administration speaks of.
