Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm Fights For American Jobs Against Outsorcing

Many American politicians stand idly by and watch our jobs flow out of the country; they state it’s not a politician’s job to create employment or business. However, others are working their behinds off at preserving the American standard of living, one such politician is Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm.

Michigan has been one of the hardest hit states because of the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs. Governor Granholm does not swallow the jobs of tomorrow propaganda; she wants the jobs of today as well as the jobs of the future. While many have done nothing in regards to job losses to overseas competition, Governor Granholm has worked tirelessly to protect American jobs in her state of Michigan.

Governor Granholm has produced Tax breaks designed to boost Michigan’s sagging auto industry, she has worked into the wee hours of this morning to get he tax cuts approved, the cuts will return back to her desk for her approval.

The new deal is expected to save manufacturers more than $600 million over four years; it will also reduce the Single Business Tax on personal property by 15% in January.

Many consider the real important part of the legislature is the policy that businesses that move operations to Michigan from other regions will be exempt from personal property tax on equipment and jobs for up to two years.

Visteon Corp. and Delphi Corp. also benefited from the policy because their current tax breaks have been extended, they would have expired at the end of this year.

Chuck Hadden, lobbyist for the Michigan Manufacturers Association said the cuts are a welcome companion to the personal property tax reductions. “You want more of it based on sales not on employees and equipment,” Hadden said. “It sends a clear signal of where we’re going. It says invest here.”
