Congress Unfair With Farmers In Regards To Peru Legislation

I was advised that American legislature has allowed a foreign country an unfair trade advantage on American soil over its own American citizens. I could not believe it so I checked for myself. Now I must ask myself, “What is going on here?”

This story is appalling. As I consider the effect it has on our own hard working American farmers I ask myself, “Can this really be happening in modern times in America?” One begins to wonder, “Does any other country enact a law that puts its own citizens at a disadvantage for the sake of a foreign country?” To quote Don King, “Only in America.”

When you learn of the individuals I will advise you of, I do not want you to focus on their job, it’s the legislature enacted on them that is so appalling. So who are these individuals being suppressed by legislature passed in America? It is the popular, and well known, Asparagus grower.

We will consider the plight of America’s industrial powerhouse, the Asparagus grower. Why consider him? Because today it’s Asparagus; tomorrow it may be what you do for a living.

How can American congressman allow under priced imports into the country to flood the market, which by the way is a clear violation of our anti-dumping policy? Easily, they get a nice vacation, along with first class accommodations, as part of a business trip deal that requires them to listen to the representative lobbyists group and understand their point of view? Many congressmen are easily swayed in this manner; lobbyists will simply tell you that this is how things get done on the hill.

When asked, many elected officials caught doing business in this manner simply say that the average American does not know about the deal and he does not care about the deal, just leave the issue alone.

However, if we continue to leave the issue alone, what will be left? Here is a great example of something most Americans don’t pay attention to, the plight of the American Asparagus grower. Why choose him you ask, because he is a great example of how America is losing our economy bit by bit through the back door while your elected congressmen smiles out the front door like nothing is wrong is going on.

Asparagus growers stand as the symbol of the American working past, Engineers, Programmers, Machinists, and Manufacturers, many of which lost their jobs because America has failed to help them protect their livelihood. The governments of China, India, and many other growing economies, are very active in helping create a favorable domestic environment for their citizens. However, American officials are very seldom active in helping out their local economies. There are exceptions, like Governor Jennifer Granholm, who take an active part in trying to keep work in their states, but for the most part our elected politicians mainly focus on getting us cheap products from other countries. How can they ignore our needs let alone enact policy that oppresses us? Even when lobbyist perks are not involved, American congressmen still make decisions that adversely affect loyal American citizens.
