India Minister Found To Have Utilized Oil From Saddam During U.N. Sanctions

Next time you hear a CEO say his company supports the troops, while also knowing this same company out-sources American work to a foreign country think of the following situation.

Our brave men and woman are in Iraq fighting a war that is meant to be a tool to help bring democracy to Iraq. We tried to get Saddam to change his ways by enforcing U.N. sanctions against Iraq but the sanctions did not cause enough pressure to attain the desired change. We later found out that certain countries violated the sanctions and made back-door deals with Saddam. These back-door deals allowed Saddam the ability to operate his country in defiance of U.N. sanctions.

India has been found out to have violated the Iraqi Oil embargo that was in place, through the U.N., in order to put political pressure on Saddam Hussein. Next time you hear a story about an American soldier who is killed, or wounded, you can blame countries such as India for their involvement in this illegal act.

I do not hold the Indian citizens responsible, I do hold their government responsible, and I ask myself, ‘how can we enact so much trade with a country that behaves in such a manner?’ Is the almighty dollar so craved that we would now look the other way on such a vital issue? We all state how much we support the troops, why have we only paid lip service to this issue and not backed up our words with deeds?

Why has the Indian government been allowed to get away with this violation without being asked to justify their actions? This is the effect of outsourcing; we are providing work to countries that really do not support Americans in any real shape or form. These countries will do what’s best for their own citizens regardless of the consequences, or the people, they have to deal with.

Next time you think of our soldiers I want you to also take a moment and think of the companies who allowed American jobs to go to a country that made back door deals with the Saddam regime. These companies support jobs, whose money supports a government, whose irresponsibility has cost America billions why also placing our own brave sons and daughters in harms way.

Had countries like India not illegally attained goods and assets from Saddam he may have buckled and made changes because of the sanctions. However, these countries did not and because they did not we are in the position we are in Iraq. Countries like India; they are enjoying a thriving economy while sitting on the sideline as we work tirelessly in Iraq to protect Iraqi citizens as well as our own soldiers.

So for the brave soldiers who are fighting and protecting the ideal of democracy I say ‘Thank You’, to the outsourcing companies who do business with these types of governments I ask you, ‘How can you look at yourself and not be ashamed?’ I pray for your sake, not one more soldier is lost because of this conflict. However, if one is you have only yourself to look at because you have supported those who have not support us.

  1. I cannot believe this, and yet attimes I can. We have sold ourselves out soo much that this is probally more common than we know, yet it must never be acceptable. I hope some form of repricussions comes from this enlightenment.

  2. I agree with you Ariel, this is a very hard subject to digest. How can we suppport our troops while at the same time support businesses who may very well be the cause of our soldiers having to be put in harms way.

  3. According to a Daily Times report in Pakistan, by Iftikhar Gilani,it has been reported that the sscandal involves more money than first imagined:

NEW DELHI: India’s Enforcement Directorate is understood to have traced Rs 5.28 billion in foreign bank accounts from the sale of crude oil vouchers allegedly received by former foreign minister Natwar Singh in Iraq.

The money was deposited in three banks in Switzerland, Jordan and Luxembourg. Andaleeb Sehgal, a businessman friend and distant relation of Natwar’s son Jagat, operated these accounts and appears to be the mastermind behind the racket, the Enforcement Directorate said in a “confidential” interim report to the government.
