If you are worried about your extraordinarily high heating bill this year do not despair, nor do I want you to sweat the high price of gasoline any longer. Why? Because the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee is going to work next week for you, the hard working taxpaying citizen. You should be excited to know that the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee will be conducting a hearing on the very energy related topic of the BCS.
Although on many Mondays, and Fridays, the BCS is a very hot, water-cooler, topic, it is not something I want to hear being discussed by the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee.
You may be asking yourself what exactly is the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee? The House Energy and Commerce subcommittee is considered to be the oldest legislative standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. The subcommittees’ main purpose is to consider the encouragement of commerce while also addressing concerns regarding the American public’s health and marketplace welfare.
I know it is a sickening feeling when your alma matta is not playing on New Years Day in a bowl game, but is this question of who gets to play in a BCS bowl game really worthy of this committees time? Shouldn’t this committee spend more time, and energy, in finding ways to create cheaper energy and fuel for the American economy?
If they have some extra time to discuss college football then maybe they could also become more involved in the Iraqi Victory\Exit discussions, or get involved with more subcommittees that can help encourage domestic business growth.
I know there are some very useful subcommittee hearings on sports related topics, such as the steroid issue. However, I feel it is a waste of taxpayer’s money to even consider the discussion of who plays in what college football bowl game. I love college football, it is very exciting, but I am very concerned that my elected congressional representatives will be wasting their time debating who gets a chance to play in what bowl game.
Congress Gets Involved In BCS Issue
I hope they do more for the economy and putting people to work, those are the really pressing issues for congress to address.
I agree. If only they had the same passion for energy and commerce as they do for the BCS we wouldn’t be seeing record high energy bills this winter or seeing the new threat to our jobs — “near-shoring”.
Maybe we need to sack the congress, figuratively speaking.
