Bush continues push for Temporary Worker program

How should the United States mend its broken borders? How about establishing a new Temporary Worker program. This is what President Bush proposed today. In an effort to win back the support from the state of Arizona, President Bush spoke to a full military crowd at Tucson, Arizona.

The President continues to push his agenda for a Temporary Worker program, positive that illegal immigrants provide a needed service to the business community in the United States. The last time the President mentioned a Guest Worker program the illegal border crossings doubled in the state of Arizona.

When the general American public does not want a Guest Worker program, why is the President continuously pushing this policy? Clearly American citizens collectively agree that the Presidents priority should be protecting our borders from the increasing flow of illegal immigrants into the country.

No let me make myself clear, I am not opposed to legal immigration. My father was an immigrant. He entered this country and obtained citizenship legally. Immigrants are what make this country. That is not what this is about. This is about immigrants entering the country illegally, and consuming American jobs and resources costing the American tax payers money.

President Bush has a tough sell on his hands. Currently both parties, Democrats and Republicans, are opposed to implementing a Guest/Temporary worker program in the United States. He must decide whether to satisfy his conservative base and abandon this absurd policy -or- satisfy his Hispanic voter base.

I personally would like to see our borders secure. I welcome your comments.

  1. I was very interested to listen to the presidents’ speech today. President Bush gave a good speech at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base; I hope there is as much substance to his speech as there was emotion. I hope Bush was sincere in his comments and not just trying to win support for his immigration policies in a border region where the issue is a very hot topic. I listened to Bush state that “Illegal immigration is a serious challenge, and our responsibility is clear. We are going to protect the border.” Relying on vigilante groups that sprung up along the border is not the answer, and the construction of a high-tech fence designed to keep illegal immigrants out is receiving a lot of debate. Hopefully Bushs’ comments on hiring more border officials will help out. Most polls show that the majority of Americans want stronger action to control U.S. borders. Recently governors in Arizona and New Mexico had to declare states of emergency on their borders to protect against illegal activity that was being rampantly perpetrated by illegal aliens in border areas. Bush also made mention of the Texas Hold-Them policy, the policy went into affect when Bush signed for additional funds for homeland security. When President Bush signed the Homeland Security Department budget in Arizona last month, he approved $2.3 billion to tighten the borders and $3.7 billion to track down illegal immigrants and hold them until they are deported.

  2. While the President did promote his administration’s efforts to get a grip on illegal immigration and highlight a plan to tighten security along the southern border, calling for a guest-worker program that would allow about 11 million illegal immigrants to work legally in the country is not the answer to our illegal immigration crisis.

  3. I agree, put Americans to work creating American products to sell to American consumers. I have no problem with free trade but when you have a defifict the size of ours I think you need to rethink your policies. I say build it buy it, that should go for all countries.
