Outsourcing moves closer to home…

Just tell me where to move and I will relocate to work, this is the sad statement many Americans are now repeating repeatedly. As if the outsourcing to Asian companies was not bad enough we now have to deal with the CAFTA agreement that takes affect the beginning of the New Year.

President Bush has promised job creation and training for the future jobs of tomorrow in America. However, he has allowed illegal immigrants in New Orleans to repair and rebuild the devastated city; I read how the unemployment numbers are supposedly artificially high because of unemployment caused by hurricane Katrina, couldn’t we have put these people to work? Bush has lessened tax burdens on companies who bring back money in to America from their outsourced satellite locations in Asia, why not give domestic companies more of a tax break so we can encourage them to keep our jobs here in America?

Bush has recently traveled the world discussing democracy and trade improvements, where are the improvements for the Americans who pay his salary? I have not heard him speak a word in the domestic United States in regards to the high unemployment rate, or the loss of technical jobs to overseas companies. Bush has improved trade for China, then India, and now Central America, but what has he done for us here in domestic America?

When is the last time we heard about a booming market in America? What is the new technology and job of tomorrow Bush constantly spoke about? We are a manufacturing based economy like it or not, if we are not manufacturing then we don’t need as many accountants, IT professionals, or engineers. IN affect, by losing manufacturing jobs we are losing all other highly technical support jobs that go along with maintaining these manufacturing jobs. This rhetoric about jobs of tomorrow must end; we need the jobs of today. Where can an individual go, to attain a job today in America, where he can dream of starting a family and build a house, and work till retirement? Our business climate in America has become so unstable that I do not believe such a place exists in most locales, if it does please tell us where so we can all go there. I understand it’s not the governments’ job to create business, but I do think it’s their job to create a competitive business climate. I feel that new tax laws must be enacted as well as new tax policies for domestic corporations who keep work in America. If we do not manufacture, and our IT is outsourced, and our call centers are relocated, and our textile business is off-shored, what jobs are left? I again ask the question, where do I need to go to keep my job?

Find out who your local elected representatives are, ask them what is being done for you. It is easy to search the news media to find out how economies are improving in China, India, Central America, but where is the stories regarding the improvements in America? Are we only ‘global leaders in outsourcing’ or are we ‘global leaders’? I am looking for leadership to answer this question.
