Democrats Call for Immediate Withdrawal from Iraq

Democrats continued their persistence today, with Top House Democrat on military spending matters Jack Murtha calling for an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq while disconcerting many GOP leaders in the process.

This is just one of the many attempts to persuade the GOP leaders and the White House into formulating a troop withdrawal plan.

Jack MurthaIn typical GOP style, the comments from Jack Murtha were immediately dismissed and he along with several other Democratic leaders accused of siding with the terrorists.

Murtha, when asked about the comments, replied sarcastically: “I like guys who got five deferments and [have] never been there and send people to war, and then don’t like to hear suggestions about what needs to be done.” Cheney did not serve in the military, and Bush was an Air National Guardsman who did not leave the United States during the Vietnam War.

Since when does caring about our serviceman constitute supporting terrorism? The Bush Administration has made individuals afraid to standup and discuss issues that concern them. They have created an environment that implies you are anti-American if you do not conform to their beliefs. I do not think the immediate withdrawal from Iraq is necessarily a good idea, although I think a plan should be constructed and adopted.

One comment for “Democrats Call for Immediate Withdrawal from Iraq”

  1. I believe the number of Republicans supporting the call for a timetable reinforces the belief that the inertia behind the effort to keep a large force in Iraq is losing its steam. With the eroding domestic economy supplied by a gigantic trade surplus many have wondered how much longer Bush can keep up any type of support for the elongation of service men and woman in abroad. We have heard of improvements all over the world but never is there mention in America of how things are improving. Look around, who is not facing job cuts, salary reductions, or a threat of being outsourced. Many are now calling for their elected representatives to address these issues rather than the struggle in Iraq, I believe rightfully so. I may not know all of the facts, but with what knowledge I do have of the situation in Iraq, I believe it is time to bring our hero’s home. I, for one, am personally tired of seeing the flag at half staff during my ride to and from work each day. Bring our soldiers home so that the flag does not creep down the pole for one more sacrificed American life.
